The National Conference on “Hill Agro-Ecosystem: Challenges and Opportunities for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals”
(HAES-COSDG-2024), held on 29th and 30th November 2024, at the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, marked a significant milestone for hill
agriculture. Organized by the Indian Association of Hill Farming in collaboration with the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, the conference provided an
invaluable platform for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to address the unique challenges of hill agro-ecosystems and explore pathways toward sustainable development.
The conference was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri La. Ganesan, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The inaugural session was further enriched by the presence of many eminent figures from ICAR and other Central Institutes, These dignitaries contributed significantly to the discussions
and chaired various oral and poster presentation sessions, fostering the exchange of valuable insights and ideas.
The conference witnessed the participation of over 250 delegates, including distinguished speakers, scientists, academicians, and students,
who contributed to dynamic discussions across seven thematic areas. These included:1) New Frontiers in Hill Agriculture and Climate-Resilient Technologies; 2) Agro-Ecosystem Services and
Natural Resource Management; 3) Futuristic Natural, Organic, and Precision Farming; 4) Advances in Crop Protection; 5) Farm Mechanization, Value Addition, and Post-Harvest Management;
6) Frontiers in Livestock and Fish Production Systems; 7) Market Access, Economics, and Value Chain in Hill Agriculture
A key highlight was the presentation of 150 abstracts, with more than 80 oral and an equal number of poster presentations. These contributions
showcased innovative research and practices addressing critical issues such as fragmented landholdings, soil erosion, limited mechanization, and the impacts of climate change on hill agriculture.
The discussions also emphasized science-based solutions and collaborative approaches to enhance resilience, productivity, and livelihoods in hill regions.
The success of HAES-COSDG-2024 reflects the collective commitment of all stakeholders toward achieving sustainable development goals in hill agriculture.
The conference outcomes, documented in the book of abstracts and Souvenir book, will serve as valuable resources for advancing research and innovation in this critical field.
